The climate |
| The climate of the Bahamas is tropical with heavy rainfall in May-June and September-October. The average temperature in January is 21 ° C, July - about 30 ° C. Rather frequent storms sweep over the island from June to October. Rivers in the Bahamas are practically absent. There are many salt lakes (communicating with the sea). Vegetation is poor. Predominant are savannas or thickets of thorny evergreen shrub, large area being occupied by pine forests. On the islands of Andros and Great Abaco they grow deciduous and evergreen tropical forests, on the coasts there are groves of coconut palms. Fauna is quite poor and is mainly represented by birds (mostly migratory waterfowl), as well as iguanas, iguti and bats. Offshore waters are rich in fish, crustaceans and molluscs. National Park on Inagua Island is remarkable for the largest accumulation of flamingos in the world, the island is home to more than 50,000 of them. Visitors are excited to watch those flamingos. Pineapples, orange trees, banana trees, tomatoes, sugar cane are cultivated here. There are different palm trees, garlands of bright color hanging everywhere. |
