| The largest islands are New Providence, Grand Bahama, Andros, Eleuthera. Great Abaco - the second largest island in the Bahamas - is well known to all sailors in the world. The sailing season here lasts from spring to fall. It is really exciting to be here in the fall. Extensive coastal shallow waters swarm with fish. You can do any of the existing water sports, fishing, or visit the duty free shops of the largest city of the island - Marsh Harbor. Long Island is hardly visited by tourists though this is the most picturesque island of the Bahamas, with beautiful scenery and lots of completely virgin places. At the northern tip of the island, Cape Santa Maria there is a long white sandy beach, one of the most beautiful in the western part of the world. The main town of the island - Stella Maris - is small but quite modern, being the starting point for diving and fishing expeditions. Axum Island range comprises over 360 small islands in the southern part there are two relatively large islands - Greater and Lesser Axum, where the cream of the local civilization is concentrated. The archipelago is a paradise for yachtsmen, because the local sites are among the most beautiful in the world: the constant ebb and flow, changing the depth of the coastal shallows make the sea extremely beautiful. Divers can get a lot of inspiration here too. |
